Are pups from the same litter a problem. Today I was surprised to hear the claim that a rescue home policy is not to re-home more than one pup from the same litter to the same home. This apparently is due to the amount of pups that get returned. Ok let’s break this down and look at the real problem. Is there any scientific evidence that shows a genetic challenge to having litter mates? The answer is no, many people have two pups or kittens from the same litter without any problems. There is however another more serious problem that needs to be addressed. That is Lack of Knowledge. The problem is that people take two cute puppy’s not realising that this means twice the work load, food, training and expense. Rescue homes must take the responsibility to educate people, not make up excuses. Especially when it involves puppy’s. Most good food manufactures give free puppy packs to breeders and rescue homes, and good trainers do free advice sheets. Only then can we get the puppy’s and owners off to a great start.

The previous owner of this dog called him aggressive, locked him in a crate and demanded he had a brain scan. Happy Endings Rescue took him into their wonderful care. I now own him. He is fit healthy and growing. A healthy portion of love, nutrition and correct training

Your new K9 friend Today I had the privalage to go to Happy Endings Animal Rescue Hailsham, East Sussex. It is run by two guys, Terry and Chris. The work these men do is nothing short of amazing. However the scary thing is how many dogs are finding their way into the care of this rescue home. In the UK a dog licence is no longer required and there is a serious shortage of dog trainers with proper knowledge. The end result is a “throw away” mentality. So if your thinking of getting a new dog, then please do your research, find a good trainer and budget for good food (not the cheapest) as its so important to behavior and insurance, If you do this you will not need the help of a rescue home but you will have an amazing friend for life.
